HERBAL DATABASE

An amazing herbal database has been released! This is a work in progress by the amazing 7Song. He has been a force in the herbal community not only running a free clinic in Ithaca, volunteering at festivals to run the 1st aid tent, teaching at herbal conferences all over the country, and I’m honored to have gotten to know him over the years. He was a voice of wisdom when I was bitten by a copperhead snake.

From 7Song:
“After years of working on it, this herbal database goes online today. I’m both excited and nervous about its release.

Disclaimer. The content within this database is for information only. It is not meant to be used for diagnosis, treatment, or as medical advice. Seek the assistance of a qualified healthcare professional about any health or medical conditions.

Please read the Safety page first, as one of my biggest concerns in releasing this database is that people can use the information in inappropriate ways. Health care is a responsibility; please be thoughtful and conscientious while helping yourself and others. I am not responsible for any outcomes from the use of the database. The information should just be a starting point in learning how to use plants as medicine.

Go to the Videos and Links section. The videos there will show you how to navigate the database. I suggest looking through the other parts of the dropdown menu, as it will answer some of your questions.

This database is far from complete. I will continue working on it for years to come. I decided to release it now as it can be helpful even in its unfinished form. You may want to check it occasionally as new information is added.

A brief history. I started this database to help me at the Ithaca Free Clinic, where I practice as a clinical herbalist. Sometimes, while working with an individual, I would get stuck trying to think of what plant would be helpful. Steve Mandl offered to help me build a base, which went from that simple idea to this much more developed database. This never would have happened without Steve’s technical and helpful assistance.

Donations: Keeping this database on its current platform costs me $622 a year. I would appreciate any help with this. There is a donation button on the dropdown menu.

Controversial Plants: I have included plants that have ecological concerns, as well as some toxic plants. I have gone back and forth with this, but since these plants are known, I wanted to state their environmental status and toxicity here rather than on potentially less reliable information elsewhere.

Body Systems: These are the body systems I have completed for now; digestive, first aid, gynecological, male health, mental health, nervous system, and the respiratory system. As mentioned, this is a perpetual project.

I hope you find this database educational and informative. I look forward to reading your thoughts about it. Thank you for being interested in herbal medicine. ~7Song”
